OUR FOOD SYSTEM IS BROKEN
So, what would it take to fix it? (9:00-10:00)
Food systems sit at the centre of the climate, biodiversity, and public health crises – yet progress on transforming them has been slow and politically difficult.
Dr. Benjamin Bodirsky will open the session on new modelling from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (home of the planetary boundaries), outlining what a transformed food system would need to look like to meet environmental, economic, and health objectives at the same time.
This will be followed by a panel discussion examining why change has been so difficult to achieve, and where the biggest opportunities lie. Key questions include:
- If we know what a sustainable food system looks like, why are we struggling to move toward it?
- What are the key structural barriers to change? Which incentives or power structures are preventing change?
- What are the roles that companies should be most focused on playing?
